William Egginton, an Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and chair of the Department of German and Romance Languages and Literatures in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, will be joining the Office of the Dean as vice dean for graduate education. He will continue to teach in the department, though he will step down as chair. In his new position, Egginton will be involved with strategic planning, working with department chairs to promote graduate programs across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. He also will be responsible for reviewing policies governing admissions, financial packages, academic performance, degree requirements, and teaching obligations of doctoral students, and will coordinate with departments and programs regarding the research and teaching portfolios for graduate students. Egginton succeeds Ben Vinson III, who on Aug. 1 will become dean of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at George Washington University.
