Patricia Janak is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor affiliated with the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the Department of Neuroscience. Her work has centered on neurons in a part of the brain that her lab has shown to play a significant role in food and drink preferences. Ongoing research into this area of the brain seeks to determine how these neural mechanisms influence addictive behaviors and how external stimuli can trigger relapses for those with substance abuse disorders.
