Umesh Korde began working in the field of wave energy in 1982. His current research focuses on using environmental energy for environmental sensing, acoustics in the ocean, noise-shielding, using ocean waves to understand climate change, and the effect of waves and tides on near-shore heat processes. Korde has also contributed to the fields of robotics.
