Ashley Berner is a professor in the School of Education and serves as deputy director for the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy. She has recently appeared in various media outlets to discuss the importance of teaching children civics at a time of such heightened partisan divisions. She studies the relationship between educational structure and state funding in democratic nations, religious education and citizenship formation. She also examines teacher preparation in different national contexts and serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the Maryland Education Development Consortium.
