Good news for Hopkins staff, students, and patients hailing from Owings Mills. On Jan. 7, the Maryland Transit Administration launched new Metro Subway cars.

Lisa Ishii, senior vice president for operations at Johns Hopkins Health System, spoke at the ribbon cutting, held at the Johns Hopkins Station. Mayor Brandon Scott; MTA acting secretary Kathryn Thomson; MTA administrator Holly Arnold; and other federal and state officials also gave remarks.

The new railcars replace the original fleet, which has served since the Metro's opening in 1983. The new cars will provide smoother, more comfortable, more efficient rides for the thousands of commuters who travel daily between Owings Mills and Johns Hopkins' East Baltimore campus on the Metro SubwayLink.
