Sightline's Year of Learning begins: Get ready for Workday and a new way to work

All Johns Hopkins faculty and staff can access early learning and previews of the technology, rolling out in summer 2027

Remember moving from a flip phone to a smart phone? Suddenly, automatic tasks required new thinking. For a few days, you may have been frustrated. Once you adjusted, you found yourself quickly adapting to the new technology.

That's akin to the shift that many faculty and staff members may experience when Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Health System transition to Workday in summer 2027. All employees will experience some change as many self-service tasks will be different, impacting everything from how personal information is updated (your new Worker Profile) to viewing your pay stubs to seeking reimbursements.

Making everyday tasks simpler, faster, and more connected

While some changes will be minor, others may be more substantive, depending on roles and tasks. The Workday platform, selected in 2024 to replace SAP, will introduce new ways of working across human resources, finances, supply chain, and sponsored projects.

The Sightline program has launched the Workday Year of Learning to prepare Hopkins employees for the transition before role-based training begins in 2027. (Get a sneak peek by watching this short video).

A yearlong webinar series called What's Changing With Workday is the cornerstone of the effort, launching in January with dedicated sessions for university and health system employees.

Visit What's Changing With Workday to sign up for the first JHU webinar, which will be on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

"We anticipate that employees who take advantage of these early learning opportunities will be better prepared for the role-based training launching in spring 2027," says Natalie Palugyai, Sightline's executive director of Organizational Change Management. "These offerings will provide previews of what's ahead and showcase how this technology will create an improved work experience for our community."

All learning resources are housed on a centralized JHED-protected hub called myWorkday: Learning, which includes links to video demos, self-paced learning modules, and more. These options are designed to accommodate different work schedules and learning styles. They include:

Introduction to Workday series

Interactive, self-paced learning modules introduce Workday navigation and core features. Each module includes demonstrations and activities that build familiarity with Workday's essential functions. These eLearnings are available anytime in myLearning 2.0. You can add the full series to your learning transcript or access them by searching for "Workday" in MyLearning 2.0.

myWorkday demonstrations

A growing library of short videos on the myWorkday Learning site—such as Navigating Workday, Meet Nicole, Registered Nurse—provides previews of how Workday will look and function. Demonstration topics include navigating Workday, creating expense reports, and ordering supplies. Topics will be added throughout the year.

While the design and build for Johns Hopkins Workday will run through March 2026, the Sightline team is showcasing these early learning opportunities with the caveat that some elements may contain forward-looking statements regarding design considerations and plans and are subject to change. Visit the Sightline website for details about the program, including ways in which Johns Hopkins employees can engage and be involved.
