Johns Hopkins uses the RAVE system to deliver urgent safety messages and timely operational updates, including inclement weather notifications and emergency road closures, directly to its community members' phones. Opting in ensures you receive the right information, at the right time, for the campuses you visit most or are perhaps part of your commute.
Why it matters
RAVE is the university's primary tool for brief, actionable text alerts—think avoid this area, shelter in place, all clear, or operational changes due to weather. Messages are targeted by campus so you aren't flooded with irrelevant information, and they're part of a layered approach that also includes email and the university's emergency alerts webpage for full details. More than 60,000 Hopkins affiliates are already enrolled.
"It is vital that we understand the risks posed by severe weather and other disruptions," says Jon Kucskar, deputy chief risk officer. "RAVE and our emergency alert tools help the university manage those risks and communicate real-world impacts to our community."
