JHU launches 2025 United Way campaign

This year's campaign simplifies giving while working to raise funds in support of nonprofits serving the university's neighbors

Johns Hopkins University kicks off today its 2025 United Way fundraising campaign, which is co-chaired by Maria Harris Tildon, vice president for government, community, and economic partnerships, and Alicia Wilson, vice president for civic engagement and opportunity.

As part of a long-standing partnership with the United Way of Central Maryland and the United Way of the National Capital Area, the campaign—which runs this year from Oct. 20 to Dec. 12—raises donations for nonprofit organizations working to improve the well-being of JHU's neighbors, with a focus on supporting three important areas: education, financial stability, and health.

Easier ways to give

New this year, payroll deduction pledges made during the previous campaign will automatically roll over into the current campaign year. This means that your 2024 pledge and designated contributions will remain in effect unless you choose to make changes by logging into the system during the campaign period.

"Through a single contribution, employees can support a wide range of nonprofits delivering essential services to communities right here in Baltimore and help strengthen the campaign's impact," Tildon says. "Every pledge, no matter the size, helps us reach more people—and we are so grateful for those contributions."

Building participation

During the 2024 campaign, Johns Hopkins raised $481,000 through employee contributions. Organizers emphasize that this year's campaign is not only about raising funds but also about broadening participation across all divisions of the university.

"Philanthropy at Hopkins has always been about community," Wilson says. "When more of us participate, even in small ways, it demonstrates our shared commitment to helping our neighbors thrive. That collective support matters as much as the dollars raised."
