If you're not getting your recommended preventive care, you're missing out on an important benefit of your health plan. When you use an in-network provider for preventive care, it's 100% covered. [Note: Coverage may vary. You can confirm your specific coverage in advance by contacting Quantum Health.]

Routine checkups and cancer screenings help prevent health issues or detect illness at an early stage when treatment will be most effective—and often before you experience symptoms. Some people may be at higher risk for health issues owing to their family history or other reasons.

Keep reading for preventive care recommendations from Quantum Health, the free health care navigator service for everyone enrolled in a JHU CareFirst medical plan.

Your primary care provider knows you best

Connect with your primary care provider for specific guidance based on your unique situation. Over time, your PCP gets to know your medical history, lifestyle, preferences, and health goals. This familiarity allows your care to be tailored specifically to you.

PCPs are trained to screen for a wide range of conditions, including chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Regular checkups increase the likelihood of catching health issues early, when they're easier to treat. Don't have a PCP? Quantum Health can help you find one.

Routine exams and tests

Having a regular checkup is like giving your body a tune-up to make sure everything is running smoothly and to catch any issues before they become big problems. Your routine exam will include a physical checkup and may include screenings based on your age and gender. Contact your doctor or visit U.S. Preventive Services Task Force to learn more. The following routine exams are recommended:

All ages
  • Routine dental exam every six months
  • Routine eye exam every two years
Infant to 17 years old
  • Well visits every year
Ages 19 to 64 years old
  • Routine physical exam (which may include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and depression screenings) every two years

Vaccines and immunization

It is recommended that everyone receive certain vaccinations, depending on age and medical history. Vaccines are often administered at your PCP or pharmacy. Contact your doctor or visit the CDC website to learn more.

Cancer screening recommendations

Routine cancer screenings are important to prevent or detect potential health issues. When you use an in-network provider, preventive screenings are 100% covered. To learn more, talk to your doctor, go to the CDC website, or visit Naviance Cancer Navigation, Prevention and Support.
