As of July 1, Costco Pharmacy has officially replaced Optum Rx as the in-network provider for mail order and specialty medications for faculty and staff enrolled in a Johns Hopkins University CareFirst health plan. This change affects the pharmacy services provided by Capital Rx, which now partners with Costco Pharmacy for these prescriptions.

What this means for you

If you previously filled prescriptions through Optum Rx, most of your active prescriptions were automatically transferred to Costco Pharmacy. However, some prescriptions require action on your part and were not transferred; these include:

  • Expired prescriptions
  • Controlled substances
  • Prescriptions with no refills remaining
  • New or renewed prescriptions not yet filled
  • Compound prescriptions
  • Prescriptions from a local retail pharmacy

If you haven't done so already, you'll need to manually transfer these prescriptions.

How to get started

You can now set up your online member profile with Costco Pharmacy and begin managing your prescriptions through its platform. There you can add delivery and payment information and transfer any prescriptions that didn't carry over.
