Are you ready to unlock your full potential and achieve your dreams? The Johns Hopkins Employee Assistance Program, also known as JHEAP, is committed to helping employees become their best selves. Thanks to the success of its pilot offering, life coaching is now available to university employees.
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a holistic, proactive approach to enhancing overall well-being and is a powerful tool for personal development. Coaches focus on enhancing your quality of life by addressing individual aspects such as career growth, personal relationships, health, and work-life balance to help you achieve your goals.
JHEAP life coaching sessions provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your potential, build confidence, and celebrate your successes; here is a FAQ page about life coaching. Employees may schedule up to six free sessions per year, and the 45-minute sessions take place via phone or video call.
Who are the coaches?
Your free and confidential coaching is provided by someone who is certified by the International Coaching Federation or the Association for Coaching.
Marjorie Mangot, a coach within the JHEAP network, says, "My approach is to see the person being coached as an expert in their own life. They know themselves best, and my job as a coach is helping them tap into that expertise."
What can life coaching help me with?
Your coach's guidance, support, and strategies can help you reach your goals and perhaps transform your life. JHEAP's certified life coaches can help you:
- Adopt healthier habits and routines
- Break out of your comfort zone and try new things
- Balance work, personal life, and leisure time
- Stay accountable while moving toward achieving your goals
Coaching also can help people get clarity on their goals or move forward when they're feeling stuck, Mangot says. "We might talk through What are you hoping to achieve? What might be getting in the way? What's one thing that you can bring forward from this session, whether it's a specific action or a shift in mindset? That's what I hope people leave a session with."
Your coach can also refer you to work-life services or a JHEAP counselor to assist with stress at work or at home, emotional distress, a difficult life transition, or other challenges that may be better supported by counseling.
