Children's curiosity and development take center stage at the Weinberg Early Childhood Center, a JHU Child Care Center Partner located near the East Baltimore campus. Currently, the center has openings for 2-year-olds and preschoolers.
The WECC is committed to high-quality care and education as evidenced by its high staff-to-child ratios, individualized planning, and diverse, unified community. The center offers a well-rounded educational experience, engaging children in activities that develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills through research-driven strategies.
For 2-year-olds, the curriculum emphasizes sensory exploration, problem solving, and social interactions. For preschoolers, the focus is on developing foundational academic skills and pro-social behaviors. Exploring themes that spark curiosity, teachers enable the children to take ownership of their learning. A balance of teacher-guided and child-directed learning sets the foundation for academic success and life beyond WECC.
The center's blended enrollment model ensures that high-quality child care is accessible regardless of a family's socioeconomic status. Eligible university faculty, staff, and graduate students can combine JHU's child care vouchers and scholarships to help cover tuition. Additionally, Head Start and the Maryland State Child Care Scholarship programs offer federal and state funding for families that meet eligibility requirements, making quality early childhood education more affordable.
