College has been made more affordable for employees through the university's Tuition Assistance programs. Support is available to help pay tuition for degree-seeking employees as well as their eligible children who are pursuing an undergraduate degree full time.
If you or your child plans to take spring classes, now is the time to apply for Tuition Grant in EdAssist. You must apply online starting 90 days prior to the term start date and no later than 30 days after. Reminders:
- If you have more than one qualifying child, you must submit an application for each dependent each semester.
- If both parents work at JHU, each must apply for each dependent to receive the full grant.
- Semester cap: When submitting your application, your request amount should not exceed the semester cap of $16,182.50.
- The Tuition Grant—Domestic Partner Children option is only for those who are non-tax dependents.
- Letter of credit: Remember that the letter of credit, or LOC, replaces the JHU grant award notice, or GAN. Each parent will need to send this letter to the student's school to initiate payment. The school will need to submit an invoice to EdAssist for each parent's application.
- If your dependent's school does not accept the LOC, select Tuition Grant for Children—Reimbursement. Once you submit your application, you must upload an itemized invoice. Then, you will receive payment via payroll within one to two pay periods.
Once you submit your application(s), EdAssist will send a status update by email after it has been reviewed and approved. Allow three to five business days for the approval process, and remember to visit EdAssist to retrieve your letter of credit. You can log in to EdAssist at any time to view your application status.
For detailed instructions on using the new EdAssist system, refer to the How to Apply section on either the employee or dependent tuition grant page.
