As of Jan. 1, 2025, Lincoln Financial Group is administering family and medical leave, or FML, for university employees. JHU's administrator for disability benefits, LFG was selected to improve the employee experience and enhance efficiencies for leave management.

Who is affected by this change?

Employees who use FML, birth recovery leave, or parental leave are impacted by this change.

Managers and supervisors should be aware that employees who take leave will need to work with Lincoln. Department HR and administrator resources can be found here.

What is changing?

All new requests for FML, birth recovery leave, and parental leave are handled by LFG; these include determinations of eligibility, tracking intermittent and continuous leave, and providing required notifications.

What is staying the same?

You will still need to notify your supervisor or HR business partner when you need to take leave.

If you are currently on continuous leave, you will use the previous process working with the HR leave team and your supervisor until the leave ends.

If you are currently on intermittent leave that was approved in 2024 and extends into 2025, Lincoln will now manage your leave. When you need to file your first instance of intermittent FML in 2025, call LFG at the number below to report your time and let the case manager know that it was previously approved by JHU.

How do I initiate a leave claim?

If you need to take family or medical leave, you should first notify your supervisor of your need for a leave. Then contact LFG to start your FML claim by calling 888-246-4483 or visit MyLincolnPortal.com (registration code JHUEE). Open this flyer to read more about how to start a claim.

More information about leave and time off can be found on the HR webpage.
