Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, Johns Hopkins' backup care provider is changing, as announced earlier this fall. Read on to see how to learn more, when the new portal will be available, and what you'll need to do to use your caregiving benefits in 2025.

Webinar

Join Bright Horizons—Johns Hopkins' new backup care provider—from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, to learn about your backup care benefits and family support available to help you manage caregiving responsibilities. To attend and/or receive a recording of the presentation, register here.

Transition from Care.com to Bright Horizons

Your benefits with Care.com are available through Dec. 31, 2024. Go to johnshopkins.care.com to use your 10 days of backup care before the year is over. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, employees will no longer have access to Care.com's premium membership through Johns Hopkins University.

To access your 2025 caregiving benefits, you will need to register through the Bright Horizons website, which will be available here at the end of December.

What if I need backup care for January?

Backup care that has already been scheduled with Care.com for use after Jan. 6 should be rescheduled through the Bright Horizons portal on or after Jan. 1.

Through Bright Horizons' portal, you will be able to:

  • Register and make your first reservation in less than three minutes
  • Reserve backup care for a child, adult, or elder family member
  • Make reservations up to 90 days ahead (or last minute)
  • Use the instant booking feature to quickly schedule and confirm care

What services will Bright Horizons provide?

Full-time employees will continue to receive the benefits they rely on—10 days of backup care per year at the same rates subsidized by Johns Hopkins, plus discounts for caregiving and educational needs. These days can be used to book care for children or adults when regular care is not available and you are scheduled to work or study. All caregivers go through rigorous screening, giving you extra peace of mind.

Additionally, you'll have access to a marketplace with family education and care offerings with exclusive discounts and savings. You'll gain access to curated resources for you and your family through Bright Horizons Enhanced Family Supports, including a free Sittercity membership for caregiver searches; child care perks; tutoring and test prep; educational enrichments for your child; elder care tools and resources, including Years Ahead; tools for your growing family; and more.

This program is offered by the JHU Office of Benefits & Worklife.

Additional information and resources can be found on its Backup Care website. If you have questions, email worklife@jhu.edu.
