Summer is fast approaching, so it's time to check your calendars for gaps between school, camps, holidays, and day care closures. Here is a rundown of university benefits and resources that can help you plan an engaging summer for your family.
Camp Blue Jay
Camp Blue Jay debuts in July on the Homewood campus, offering children K-6 weekly sessions that include arts and crafts, sport-specific programs, indoor and outdoor recreational games, Friday movies, and swimming/water activities.
A 15% discount is available to all JHU employees, students, and alumni, using the code JHU24. A 10% discount is available to friends and family of JHU affiliates, using the code JHUCommunity24.
For more information or to register, visit the Camp Blue Jay website.
You can follow Camp Blue Jay on X, Instagram, and Facebook or @JHUCampBlueJay.
Care@Work benefits
Care@Work benefits can be used in multiple ways to help simplify your summer plans.
Care.com membership
Eligible Hopkins affiliates have a free premium membership to Care.com's online platform for finding short-term and ongoing care for children, adults, and pets; housekeeping; tutoring; and more. To register, visit johnshopkins.care.com.
Backup Care for children and adults
Backup Care is a great resource for finding vetted and subsidized child and adult care when you need to work or study and your regular care is unavailable. Eligible affiliates receive 10 days of backup care per calendar year. They can be used for in-home child or adult care, or for in-center child care (based on center availability in your area). Backup Care is subsidized, so you cover only an hourly co-pay for the care you receive. The costs are:
- $6/hour for those earning less than $40,000
- $8/hour for those earning between $40,000 and $74,999
- $10/hour for those earning $75,000 or more
- $15/day per child for in-center care
Additional information regarding your Care.com benefits can be found on HR's Family and Caregiving Programs webpage.
Pet care
Don't forget your furry friends when making summer plans. Care.com can help you find the help you need, including pet-sitting and pet-walking, day care, grooming, boarding, training, and more. Wondering what you should pay for pet care? Use this pet-sitting calculator.
Family discounts
Plan a fun family trip and save some money using your discount programs. Find tickets to theme parks like Sesame Place, Hershey Park, and Busch Gardens, or for a rainy-day activity like going to the movies at theaters such as AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. Search for discounts by category, including family, fun destinations, and theme parks.
