Legacy of Levi Watkins to be honored with a day of service

Cardiac surgeon and civil rights activist to be celebrated with volunteer opportunities across Baltimore

The legacy of Levi Watkins, a renowned Johns Hopkins cardiac surgeon and civil rights activist, will be honored with a day of service on Friday, June 9.

Engagement with community is a key component of Johns Hopkins' Dr. Levi Watkins Day of Service. Staff, students, and faculty are encouraged to celebrate Watkins' life by signing up for volunteer opportunities across Baltimore being offered in partnership with the United Way of Central Maryland.

The university's service leave policy allows faculty and staff to volunteer during their regularly scheduled work hours for a maximum of two days per fiscal year through one of its approved organizations, which include United Way of Central Maryland.
