After a two-year pandemic-related hiatus, Fall Fest—JHU's annual staff appreciation event—drew more than 2,000 members of the Johns Hopkins community to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore on Sunday.
Staff members and their families and friends spent the afternoon getting up close with the animals, riding a carousel, lunching on a spread that ranged from quinoa to pulled pork (with mac and cheese and hot dogs in between), and snacking on ice cream from two Miss Twist trucks.
Pierre Joanis, vice president for human resources, welcomed the crowd, which included employee volunteers, student hires, campus security, and shuttle drivers.
Extra food from the waste-neutral event was donated to charities.
