Confirmation statements for 2021 benefits were mailed to all full-time benefits-eligible faculty, staff, and bargaining unit members in early December. Carefully review your statement to ensure that the elections shown are those that you intended for next year. If you are covering a child who is currently age 26, that coverage will end on Dec. 31, 2020; this is reflected on the confirmation statement.

If you determine that your enrollment is not correct, you must act to make corrections no later than Dec. 31 by:

  • Emailing the Benefits Service Center at benefits@jhu.edu with the correction(s).
  • Entering "2021 Annual Enrollment Correction" in the subject line.

You will receive a return email acknowledging receipt of your request.

If you have already reached out to the Benefits Service Center to make a change, this may not be reflected on your statement. If your correction is to your beneficiary, you can make this update online at any time by going to hr.jhu.edu/benefits-worklife and choosing Life Events on the myChoices Health & Life Enrollment tab.

Life insurance evidence of insurability

Your confirmation statement reflects the amount of life insurance you were able to elect without evidence of insurability, or EOI. It may differ from the election that you made during Annual Enrollment. If you had existing supplemental life insurance coverage and elected to move up one level of coverage, EOI is not required provided the new coverage amount doesn't exceed four times your annual base salary or $500,000 and you have not been previously declined. If you moved up more than one level of coverage, you will need to complete EOI. If you elected supplemental life insurance for the first time (and are not a new hire), EOI is required for any amount of supplemental coverage you elect. Securian Financial will reach out to you via email to start the EOI process.

2021 flexible spending accounts

If you have a balance of $550 or less in your 2020 health care flexible spending account or limited purpose flexible spending account (for high-deductible health plan participants), that balance will automatically carry over into your 2021 account with Discovery Benefits. You will be able to confirm this carryover after the 2020 claims filing deadline of April 30, 2021, by viewing your account at discoverybenefits.com. The mailed confirmation does not reflect this carryover amount.

2021 health savings account

If you previously elected the high-deductible health plan and chose to open a health savings account, or HSA, you must elect a new contribution amount for 2021; otherwise, your contribution will be automatically set to $0. In 2021, you can contribute up to $3,600 per individual and up to $7,200 per family to the HSA. You can change your contribution amount at any time during the year. Your HSA contribution amount is not reflected in the mailed confirmation, but you can verify the amount by going to the myChoices benefits enrollment portal from the Health & Life enrollment tab.
