You still have time to help a student attending a Baltimore City public school by donating $40 to purchase two new uniforms. The deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23.

The school district has seen a strong correlation between access to school uniforms, which are mandatory, and student attendance. Starting the school year with new uniforms, officials say, helps build confidence in students and allows them to better focus on classwork.

You can donate by visiting the Adopt-a-Student Uniform Drive page of the Work, Life and Engagement website.

Since the program began in 2011, more than 3,100 students have received new uniforms through the generosity of the Johns Hopkins community.
