You can help students attending a Baltimore City public school by donating $40 to purchase two new uniforms.

The school district has seen a strong correlation between access to school uniforms, which are mandatory, and student attendance. Starting the school year with new uniforms, officials say, helps build confidence in students and allows them to better focus on classwork.

You can donate by visiting the Adopt-a-Student Uniform Drive page of the Work, Life and Engagement website by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17.

Since the program began in 2011, more than 2,500 students have received two new uniforms each through the generosity of the Johns Hopkins community.
