To make the Live Near Your Work grant application process a little easier and less expensive, the program has scheduled the Neighborhood Housing Services counseling agency to come to Johns Hopkins for a full-day workshop at no cost to the homebuyer. That's a $100 savings for each participant.
NHS counselors will lead the workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Johns Hopkins at Eastern. After attending the one-day workshop, homebuyers will:
- Gather necessary financial documents
- Provide the documents to Neighborhood Housing Services
- Attend a one-on-one appointment with a housing counselor on Friday, June 10, at Johns Hopkins at Eastern
- Receive the homeownership counseling certificate that is required to apply for a LNYW grant
If homebuyers are unable to attend the one-day workshop on June 3 or a one-on-one appointment with a housing counselor on June 10, there are other options for receiving a homeownership counseling certificate. The $100 savings is available only to employees who attend the June 3 workshop.
LNYW grant amounts are set to change starting July 1. However, a soon-to-be announced opportunity for Johns Hopkins employees will increase the home-buying grants to an amount unlikely to be seen again. Attending the homeownership counseling on campus will help prepare homebuyers for this opportunity.

Registration is required for the one-day workshop, and seats are limited. Parking at Eastern is free in the visitor lot, and the Johns Hopkins Shuttle makes frequent runs between campuses.
