Combine two grants to purchase a home near the East Baltimore campus

The Live Near Your Work program makes homeownership an exciting possibility for Johns Hopkins employees, and now, with the C.A.R.E. Housing Incentive Program, known as CHIP, employees are offered an additional $20,000 incentive when purchasing a home in the C.A.R.E. neighborhood. The CHIP grant and LNYW program make it possible for Hopkins employees to call one of East Baltimore's most sought-after neighborhoods home.

The special grant, funded by the state of Maryland, can be applied to the cost of homes in the area bounded by McElderry Street, Patterson Park Avenue, Fayette Street, and Wolfe Street. The neighborhood falls within the Tier C target area of the Live Near Your Work program, which means homebuyers will receive an additional $6,000.

A walking tour of the neighborhood is planned for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 23. Participants can learn what it's like to live there and why they should consider it. Lunch will be provided, along with home-buying resources galore. Register online for the walking tour or call 443-997-7000.

Nine CHIP grants remain available. For more information about Live Near Your Work or the CHIP grant, contact Katie Schroeder at worklife@jhu.edu or 443-997-7000.
