Using housing incentives to buy in Baltimore City? Here's a chance to learn about the counseling you'll need

Before you start looking for that perfect new house, you might want to check out all the incentive programs that Baltimore City offers to buyers.

Among the best is Johns Hopkins' Live Near Your Work program, through which employees are eligible for benefits of up to $25,000 in specific targeted areas.

Whether you're a first-time home buyer or considering making a new purchase, homeownership counseling is required for any Johns Hopkins employee planning to use the Live Near Your Work program. It's also helpful for anyone intending to use any other home-buying incentive.

To help you understand what to expect at counseling and how you can best prepare, the Office of Work, Life and Engagement is offering a lunchtime workshop called Home Ownership Education: What It Is and Why It's Important.

A local expert will lead the workshop, to be held in two locations: One is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, on the Homewood campus and the other from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, on the East Baltimore campus.

This workshop will not qualify you for a home ownership certificate.

Lunchtime workshops are brought to you at no cost as part of your HR benefits package, and [registration] (http://hrnt.jhu.edu/service/worklife_registration) is required.
