In a health care market increasingly focused on profit, loss, supply chain, and investment, medical professionals with a series of prestigious letters after their names are increasingly adding a new set: MBA. And one of the most influential resources for prospective business students just named Johns Hopkins Carey Business School one of its "10 business schools to watch in 2024," in part for how it's leading in the business of health.

Poets & Quants cited, among other strengths, the formidable reputations of schools across the Johns Hopkins University enterprise as a convincing argument for Carey's MBA, especially in a health-related dual degree.

"This proximity enables MBAs to tap into leading experts to develop programs and commercialize ideas," the outlet said. "With health care accounting for 20% of American GDP, that makes for huge opportunities to build a health care career with access and impact."

Carey offers five business-of-health dual degrees:

  • The MD/MBA with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
  • The DNP/MBA and the MSN/MBA with the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing
  • The MBA/Master of Public Health with the Bloomberg School of Public Health
  • The MBA/MS in Biotechnology with the Whiting School of Engineering

"We're part of an incredible ecosystem," said Alex Triantis, dean of the Carey Business School. "Because we're a relatively young business school, we've been able to take an approach that works across areas of study to address complex problems the way practitioners have to address them, with interdisciplinary understandings. And we're agile and adaptive to what our students tell us they need in a program."

The flexibility and access to the best health experts in the world aren't the only things that distinguish Carey among business schools. As Poets & Quants notes, Carey is in an elite group of schools that has "invested their time and money wisely" and are "producing the best experiences and biggest returns."

Poets & Quants, founded in 2010, is a leading publication covering business education.
