A change of plans: Commencement moves to Homewood Field on Sunday, May 22

Renovations at Royal Farms Arena prompted a date switch and the move to a sunset ceremony at Homewood Field

Johns Hopkins University is announcing a changed date and location for its 2022 universitywide Commencement. Due to renovations at Royal Farms Arena, the university will not hold a ceremony on May 26 at that location, as announced. Instead, the ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. ET on Homewood Field at the Homewood campus.

The rain date will be the morning of May 23, if needed.

"We are, as always, looking forward to a celebratory event that will cap off our students' many years of hard work," said Provost Sunil Kumar in a message to the university community. He said that, at this time, JHU is planning to resume open attendance for all friends and family, no tickets required, and expects to welcome all students who wish to participate.

The university plans to update information and provide helpful details about all commencement ceremonies, including divisional ones, in the coming months at the commencement website, commencement.jhu.edu.

Kumar noted that the uncertain future surrounding COVID-19 restrictions could force the university to make changes to the ceremony as it gets closer. If that is necessary, details will be shared by email and on the website.

"We hope this notice gives students, faculty, family members, and friends ample time to plan," Kumar said. "My colleagues and I look forward to celebrating with the Class of 2022."
