Elijah Cummings, a longtime member of the U.S. House of Representatives who was re-elected in 2014 to serve a 10th term representing Maryland's 7th District, delivered brief remarks during Johns Hopkins University's commencement ceremony today at Homewood Field.
Cummings, a Baltimore native, was one of eight people to receive honorary degrees during the ceremony.
"You must be the agents of change, for you have been blessed with an awesome education," Cummings said. "You are the ones that can guide us the rest of the way. I've often said that our children are the living messages we send to a future we will never see. You, you, and you are our messengers."
