Annual exhibition of Johns Hopkins student artwork opens today

4 seniors to receive Eugene Leake Award for outstanding achievement

The Homewood Art Workshops' 2013 Studio Show opens today from 3-6 p.m. in the Mattin Center. This is the annual exhibition of student works produced during a variety of classes—Studio Drawing I, Painting Workshop I & II, Drawing: The Portrait, Cartooning, Introduction to Sculpture, Introduction to Watercolor, Photoshop: Digital Darkroom, Documentary Photography, Black & White: Digital Darkroom, Location Photography, Artist in the Museum Making Books, and Independent Study—offered through the Workshops.

The opening also serves as the award ceremony for the 2013 Eugene Leake Award for outstanding achievement, which will be presented at 4 p.m. to seniors Angela Hu, Mischa Lassow, Hieu Tran, and Nicole Vlasic. The award is named after the late Maryland landscape painter who became Johns Hopkins University's first artist-in-residence and founded the Art Workshops in 1974; in May 2011 one of his paintings was discovered during renovations on the Homewood campus.
