Rising to the Challenge, the new Johns Hopkins fundraising campaign, takes on some of the most significant issues facing our campuses, our communities, and our world. To engage our students, faculty, staff, and alumni in embracing these challenges, Johns Hopkins conducted the first Johns Hopkins in Action activities on Sunday. In collaboration with community organizations, participants worked on service projects that reflect the campaign's emphasis on sustaining water resources, revitalizing cities, and improving health.
Projects included building a community garden, cleaning up an area stream, and volunteering with Moveable Feast, which helps put healthy food on the table for people in Maryland with AIDS, breast cancer and other severe illnesses. President Ronald J. Daniels stopped by the Health Care for the Homeless activity in Levering Hall, where participants made bagged lunches for vulnerable individuals and families in the community.
