Nestled inside an embroidered serviette, 22 engraved pages on tortilla-shaped paper give an artist's interpretation of memories past and present. The artist is Ioulia Akhmadeeva, who was born in Russia and emigrated to Mexico in the early 1990s. Her Memorías de Nixtamal is a holding of the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries Special Collections, and it is one of more than 40 items up for adoption through the libraries' Adopt a Book program. Since November 2024, the initative has raised nearly $30,000 for the purchase, preservation, and digitation of rare materials.
