Thousands of U.S. prisoners are kept in solitary confinement. Is this a necessary option, or cruelty? Gabriel Eber, SPH '02, is a senior staff counsel with the ACLU's National Prison Project, which investigates the nation's prisons and jails and advocates for compliance with the U.S. Constitution, domestic law, and international human rights principles.
