Heart of darkness
Published Spring 2015Thousands of U.S. prisoners are kept in solitary confinement. Is this a necessary option, or cruelty? Gabriel Eber, SPH '02, is a senior staff counsel with the ACLU's National Prison Project, which investigates the nation's prisons and jails and advocates for compliance with the U.S. Constitution, domestic law, and international human rights principles. The investigators assert that prison inmates should be guaranteed proper medical and mental health care and basic human decency.
