The Hubble Space Telescope has been an orbiting shutterbug for 20 years. Even among its most spectacular snapshots, this one stands out—the turbulent Carina Nebula, a nursery for stars 7,500 light-years away. The central pillar of gas in the image extends more than 17 trillion miles into space. This photo won Hubble Madness 2014, a tournament held on the telescope's Facebook page during the NCAA college basketball championships.
