Johns Hopkins hosts first-ever Alumni Identity and Equity Summit

Hopkins Bloomberg Center event brings together alums, students, and university leaders to discuss a range of topics related to diversity and belonging

Johns Hopkins University hosted its first-ever Alumni Identity and Equity Summit at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., last month, bringing together a group of alumni with a variety of backgrounds and experiences for a discussion with university leaders and students about how to advance diversity, inclusion, and belonging at Johns Hopkins.

Topics of discussion included the university's diversity Roadmap and related goals, the higher education landscape and the recent Supreme Court rulings on the use of race in university admissions, and strategies for creating a more inclusive workspace. Attendees heard from Katrina Caldwell, JHU's chief diversity officer and vice provost for diversity and inclusion, Maria Harris Tildon, vice president of government, community, and economic partnerships for Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, and Tiffany Wright, deputy general counsel for the university.

"Attending the JHU Alumni Identity & Equity Summit was not merely about reconnecting; it was about reigniting our collective promise to inclusive excellence," said Guillermo Ortiz, A&S '14. "Together we bridged experiences, shared insights, and worked toward a future where every voice resonates, every story matters, and every Blue Jay finds their place in our vibrant community. Let's embrace these moments, for in our unity lies the power to shape a brighter tomorrow for Johns Hopkins University and beyond."
