/ Published Feb 1, 2022Throughout his career as a lawyer and politician, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin has worked to improve voter representation, protect voting rights, and defend democracy. He is the author of Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy, which explores the 45-day period in the beginning of 2021 when Raskin dealt with the painful loss of his son to suicide, lived through the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, and led the impeachment effort that aimed to hold then-President Donald Trump accountable for inciting the protests that turned violent.
Raskin, who has represented Maryland's 8th congressional district since 2017 and chairs the House Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, visited Johns Hopkins University on Friday for a conversation with Hahrie Han, director of the SNF Agora Institute, that touched on Raskin's book and his record of supporting voting rights, freedom, and democracy.
The talk was the keynote event of the second annual Elijah E. Cummings Democracy and Freedom Festival, hosted this year by the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
