Securing Space: A Plan for U.S. Action
Description
The SAIS Foreign Policy Institute welcomes a Council on Foreign Relations task force to examine challenges to U.S. security in outer space and to reflect on the future of U.S. leadership in this critical domain.
Outer space is vitally important to the United States. Yet as space becomes increasingly congested and contested, especially in low Earth orbit, the United States risks losing its leadership role in a critical strategic domain. The Council on Foreign Relations convened a bipartisan task force, cochaired by Lt. Gen. Nina Armango and Rep. Jane Harman and directed by Esther Brimmer, to assess these challenges. The task force report, Securing Space: A Plan for U.S. Action, urges the United States to address threats to space assets, champion space traffic management to support the growing space economy, and incorporate commercial perspectives into civilian and national security space policy. The task force leaders will share the report's findings and recommendations and reflect on the future of U.S. leadership in outer space.
