Regulatory Matters: When Viral Marketing Meets FDA Regulations
Description
Join MS in Regulatory Science Program Director Bill Barrier as he shares current case studies highlighting how "cool" marketing often collides with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations. From TikTok "miracle" serums and "research chemical" weight-loss shots to trendy "whipped" sunscreens and youth-baited vapes, some companies chase hype and revenue while ignoring FDA rules. The session will explore the red-flag playbook of noncompliant marketing claims, formats, and channels and map those to guidance provided by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that regulates misbranding and adulteration. It will also analyze recent FDA enforcement across sectors to extract the practical answers to "Why this was illegal?" and "What should have been done?" and apply a concise "Cool-but-Compliant" checklist to real posts, pages, and product labels—especially those found on social media.
Gain a practical toolkit for spotting and stopping violations before patients are harmed or brands are burned through span drugs, devices, biologics, cosmetics/OTC, dietary supplements, food, and tobacco.
