Description

Blind student Ailee Dixon and her former science teacher, Whiting School of Engineering instructional designer Sara Shunkwiler, now share the research, stats, and stories behind disability in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM.

Join this sometimes-irreverent look at Dixon's and Shunkwiler's 10-year disability journey together from bathroom stalls inaccessible to wheelchairs to STEM courses inaccessible to screen readers. Bring questions on alt text, using artificial intelligence for accurate accessibility, and how we can design a more inclusive future in STEM. It's OK to laugh, and all questions about disability and accessibility are welcome.

This session is hosted by Johns Hopkins Engineering's Faculty Forward Academy.
