MS in Geographic Information Systems

Description

Join Cassie Hansen, the program director for the Johns Hopkins MS in Geographic Information Systems, as she hosts Johns Hopkins lecturer Jim Blanchard for a discussion on the increasing advancement of software-based tools that mimic human workflows. Blanchard will provide environmental science examples of complications that can result when third-generation artificial intelligence, combined with social media, compromises factual, empirical data. Blanchard will offer advice on how to use these tools effectively and maintain scientific integrity when the empirical data is collected using Land.Air.Sea Robotics (LASR)™ technology.

Jim Blanchard is a licensed aircraft pilot and vessel captain and the holder of more than 20 patents worldwide amassed over a 45-year career with emerging growth companies, academia, government, and non-governmental organizations. Currently, he spends 200 days a year in the field, primarily in and around the Chesapeake Bay, Florida, and the California mountains, supporting Scientific Data-to-Information LASR workflow verification and validation. Blanchard is an active member of numerous LASR strategy teams within the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and state-level Defense and Homeland Security programs and is the principal scientist who directs two LASR field labs in the Washington, DC, area and one lab in Florida.
