Description

Please join the 2025 Hopkins Medicine Distinguished Speaker Series event, featuring "A Conversation with Meena Seshamani." A pre-event dinner and reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the speaker will begin at 6 p.m.

Meena Seshamani most recently led the Medicare program at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. On Feb. 6, she was appointed Maryland Department of Health secretary by Gov. Wes Moore. She is an accomplished, strategic leader with a deep understanding of health care policy and operations and a heartfelt commitment to outstanding patient care. Her diverse background as a health care executive, health economist, physician, and health policy expert has given her a unique perspective on how health care policy and operations affect the real lives of patients. Seshamani is a Johns Hopkins–trained surgeon and Oxford-trained PhD economist, where she was a Marshall scholar.

Scott Berkowitz, chief population health officer and vice president of population health for Johns Hopkins Medicine, will moderate the conversation. The discussion will center on public health, funding, Medicare, the Food and Drug Administration, and the role of government in health care.

About the Hopkins Medicine Distinguished Speaker Series:

The Hopkins Medicine Distinguished Speaker Series was established by medical students at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to expose the student body and the greater Johns Hopkins community to inspirational and world-renowned thinkers and to new and innovative ideas. Speakers have included Nobel Prize winners, Lasker Award winners, MacArthur "Genius Award" recipients, and a host of others who have informed and inspired us by sharing their amazing stories and novel ideas.
