Description

Join Don Thompson, lecturer in the Johns Hopkins MA in Communication program, as he presents his recent research on communication content analysis using NVivo software and shares his observations about using automated platforms to assist in writing code. Thompson will also explain how he interprets findings through theoretical frameworks such as crisis communication and corporate social responsibility. Assistant Program Director Patricia Hernandez will moderate the event.

Don Thompson is an accomplished educator, researcher, and award-winning media professional who bridges academic and creative worlds, contributing to both media scholarship and production. A graduate of UCLA's film school with a master's in media criticism, he is currently completing his doctorate in communications media at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Thompson has taught and mentored at Johns Hopkins University, UCLA, University of Maryland Global Campus, and American University, earning the 2023 UCLA Alumni Distinguished Mentor Award. His research focuses on corporate social responsibility, crisis communication, and political communication, utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods. A published author, Thompson has presented his research at multiple conferences, including most recently at the Broadcast Education Association conference in Las Vegas.
