Description

The Program in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies presents Segundo Montoya Huamaní, an instructor of philosophy at the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco in Peru, for a book presentation on Interpretive Conflicts over Mariátegui's Marxism ["Conflictos de Interpretación en Torno al Marxismo de Mariátegui"] (Lima: Heraldos Editores, 2018).

Conflictos de Interpretación engages with classic interpretations of José Carlos Mariátegui's Marxism by thinkers like José Aricó, Aníbal Quijano, Enrique Dussel, and Immanuel Wallerstein to debate the substance of Mariátegui's Marxism and propose a re-articulation of his thought. Through the notion of "critical epistemological opening," Montoya offers Mariátegui's Marxism as a resource for an alternative emancipatory project that is rational and humanistic.
