LCSR Seminar: Andrea Bajo

Description
Andrea Bajo, a robotics expert and independent consultant specializing in the development of robotic technologies for health care, medical, and surgical applications, will give a talk titled "Industry PhD: A Career in Medical Robotics" for the Laboratory for Computational Sensing + Robotics.
During his talk, Bajo will share insights from both his academic and industry careers, reflecting on his journey in medical robotics. He will discuss how his doctoral work prepared him to thrive in a fast-paced, highly technical, competitive field and how the skills needed to succeed in the industry have evolved over time.
With experience leading engineering teams, developing regulatory strategies, and guiding product innovation, Bajo collaborates with technology companies, academic institutions, and investment firms to address technical and business challenges. Previously, Bajo served as director of engineering at Noah Medical, where he led a research and development organization supporting the development of a robotic platform from early prototypes to clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He has also held leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, Auris Health, Verb Surgical, and other companies contributing to advancements in medical robotic surgical systems.
Bajo holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Science in control engineering from the University of Rome La Sapienza.
