Description

In her book-length poem [Descent}(https://tarpaulinsky.com/lauren-russell/descent/), Writing Seminars professor Lauren Russell speaks into the gaps in the diary of her great-great-grandfather, a Confederate captain, and imagines the voice of her great-great-grandmother, Peggy Hubert, whom he once enslaved.

In this workshop marking the 160th anniversary of Maryland's emancipation, Russell will lead participants through a series of creative exercises to generate a work of poetry or flash fiction inspired by their own personal archival material.
