The Bridge: Bipartisan Ocean Protection Efforts
Description
Editor's note: The start time of this event has changed to accommodate the senators' schedules
What does it take to pass bipartisan environmental protection legislation today?
Please join the next Bridge event, a conversation between Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) on how they got the Save Our Seas Act 2.0 made into law. Learn about the issue that brought the two senators—from opposite sides of the aisle—together and how they collaborated to pass this legislation.
The discussion will be moderated by Allyson Chiu, climate solutions reporter for The Washington Post.
A Hopkins expert panel follow the two senators' conversation:
- David Love, research professor at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, is an expert in food systems and sustainability. His work focuses on the environmental, social, health, and food system issues related to aquaculture and fisheries.
- Thao (Vicky) Nguyen, professor of mechanical engineering at JHU's Whiting School of Engineering, is known for her research on the mechanics of soft engineering and biological materials. Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, Nguyen is developing a process to create sustainable plastics.
The Bridge is a series of conversations bringing together bipartisan lawmakers to discuss their areas of agreement. Join in at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, where Washington Comes to Think.
