Description

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions and Center for Gun Violence Solutions in collaboration with other partners invite you to the fourth and final event in the Health Opportunities for Policy Equity (HOPE) Challenge: a groundbreaking policy and luncheon forum titled "Promoting Health Equity by Reducing Gun Violence in Communities of Color." This is a hybrid event, and attendees can register for virtual or in-person attendance.

The half-day event features a comprehensive program, including expert panels and a fireside chat addressing the intersection of public policy and health disparities caused by gun violence. The keynote address will be given by Rev. Al Sharpton, civil-rights and social-justice activist and CEO and president of the National Action Network. A complimentary networking lunch will be held after the forum.

At 9:45 a.m., journalist Roland S. Martin will moderate a panel on "America's Urban Gun Crisis: Unpacking the Causes, Disparities, and Policies" featuring insights from Daniel W. Webster, Bloomberg professor of American health at the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions; Pamela A. Smith, chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia; and Rodney Bryant, president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

The conversation continues at 10:45 am with the fireside chat on "Communities, Policing, and Mental Health: A Civil & Human Rights Perspective," also moderated by Roland S. Martin, featuring Fatimah Loren Dreier, executive director of The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention and Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education; Angela Ferrell-Zabala, national director of Moms Demand Action; and Nicholas Scott Meyerson, research fellow at the Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions.
