Description

How do states, corporations, and universities collaborate in war-making? More specifically, how are the U.S. military, armaments manufacturers, and universities—including Johns Hopkins—involved in the latest Israel-Hamas war in Gaza? Join this special panel discussion that examines the connections between the military, war-related industries, and institutions of higher education.

Speakers:

  • Michael Klare, defense correspondent for The Nation, will share expertise on peace and security studies and the U.S. military-industrial complex.
  • Jacob Kripp (PhD '22), visiting assistant professor of political science at Trinity College, will examine Johns Hopkins University's role during the Cold War.
  • Dalit Baum, director of economic activism at the American Friends Service Committee, will discuss corporate complicity in state violence.

The panel presentations and discussion will be moderated by Corey Payne (BA '17, MA '19, PhD '23), postdoctoral teaching fellow at Johns Hopkins, and followed by an audience Q&A. This event is organized by the Hopkins Coalition Against War and the Hopkins Justice Collective.
