Solar eclipse viewing party
Description
Join the JHU community on the Beach to view the solar eclipse and learn about the significance of this rare phenomenon from experts in planetary science. Maximum eclipse will occur at 3:21 p.m. Solar eclipse glasses will be provided, and there will be giveaways.
Experts on hand will include:
- Kevin Lewis, associate professor of Earth & Planetary Sciences
- Representatives from the Maryland Space Grant Observatory, who will have a solar telescope and a sun spotter
Later in the day, join members of the "Guided Tour of the Planets" class on the Keyser Quad in front of the MSE Library to see if they correctly calculated the date and time at which the sun will be perfectly aligned with the top of the Gilman Hall spire. This "Hophenge" event is anticipated to take place at 6:15 p.m.
