Expanding Access to Methadone in Jails and Prisons
Description
Increasing the use of medications for opioid use disorder for incarcerated people is a key intervention to prevent overdose deaths and reduce recidivism. This event, presented by the Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Mental Health & Addiction Policy in partnership with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, will focus on opportunities to expand access to methadone in correctional facilities, including recent developments with the 2024 Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) final rule on the use of methadone. It will feature federal policymakers discussing recent federal initiatives to increase access to treatment as well as state and local leaders and practitioners.
