Description

Justin J. Pearson, representative of District 86 in the Tennessee General Assembly, will discuss "The Fight for Environmental Justice and Democracy" for the Environmental Health and Engineering Department.

Justin J. Pearson is a Tennessee state representative, community organizer and advocate for social and environmental justice. He is the cofounder of Memphis Community Against the Pipeline, a Black-led environmental justice organization that successfully defeated plans to build a crude oil pipeline through their community. He is also the co-lead and strategic adviser for Poor People's Campaign: National Call for Moral Revival, an organization advocating for the rights of low-income people across the country. Pearson became the second youngest lawmaker serving in the Tennessee House of Representatives when he was elected to office in January 2023 at the age of 28.
