Suburban Schools, Urban Realities: Policy and Possibility at the Urban Fringe

This landmark two-day conference will convene 25 of the nation's most highly regarded thinkers working at the leading edge of scholarship on the urban realities of suburban life.

During the two-day conference, attendees will collaborate and network with other experts in economics, education, history, law, political science, policy, and sociology on issues of equity and educational opportunity in suburban spaces. Attendees will also develop a transdisciplinary, peer-reviewed and -edited volume on metropolitan change and educational challenges.
The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and also includes a reception on Nov. 29 at 5 p.m.
Celebrate the School of Education's inaugural convening in the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, Johns Hopkins' new home in Washington, D.C., with colleagues from across the university and beyond. The event is hosted by the Johns Hopkins School of Education's Center for Safe and Healthy Schools and the New York University Steinhardt School's Metro Center, and has been made possible by support from the Spencer Foundation. The reception, hosted by Dean Christopher Morphew, celebrates some of the nation's top experts on issues of equity and educational opportunity.
